5 aside football
Road to Northern Ireland
We are the current 5 aside
junior football champions of
England
.
Local: The 1st round was a
splendid show of passing flowing football and was a little easy not conceding a
goal. This was played at Watford Leisure Centre.
Regional: Round two saw a
slightly stiffer competition but still didn’t challenge a team of our calibre.
We still had not conceded a goal at the end of this stage. These were played in
Nottingham
and we were now going into the whole of
England
finals.
Nationals: At the national
finals, held in the depths of
South London
- the boys finally met their match. Half the teams looked like men but
the lads scraped through with an all important goal in the last 5 seconds of the
last game. This had been a true test of character and thanks to our outstanding
performances we had finally made it to
Northern Ireland
for the International stage of the tournament.
International: This
tournament consisted of six sides 2 from
Scotland
, 2 English and 2 from
Northern Ireland
. The previous round had left the boys under no
illusions that this was going to be a stroll in the park. Having watched the
first few games from the sidelines this proved to be the case. The boys never
really found their best form till the last games, which by this point was a
little too late. They still finished a respectable 4th, ahead of the
other English side from
Newcastle
, which crowned them
England
champions. The tournament was dominated by the
Scottish sides who came 1st and 2nd. Perhaps there’s hope for their national
side yet!
The boys spent the weekend in
Northern Ireland
taking part in bowling and a meal with the other
teams. The families of the boys and Steve our minister stayed in a hotel in the
heart of
Belfast
and tasted a bit of Irish culture.
All in all, a great weekend had by all, including Mr A and Mr Fowler
without whose dedication and organisation would never have seen the boys get so
far.

A squad of 5
travelled which meant no place for injuries. They were: Ryan Magee (GK), Tom
Kennedy (MF), James Purvis (DF), Ross White (MF) and Luke Herting (FW)
