Last weekend we hosted a Prayer event for the persecuted church as part of an Underground event called "Shockwave". It was an amazing event in which young people from across Watford came together to pray and take a stand with persectued Christians. We also looked at what it means to be readied for battle with the full armour of God (Eph 6v10-18).
A big thank you to all who were involved and if you missed out - don't worry shockwave will be back next year and in the mean time check out the Underground website to get involved.
A few weekends back we had a work day at the church to brighten things up. It was a great day of hard work (for most of us!) and fellowship. A lot of the outstanding items at the church have been completed and I think you will agree the church is much better for the work done. Thank you to all who were involved and gave up their time and skills to get those jobs completed.
If you missed out this year, but would like to help in the future do let one of our ministers or Rob know - we can find a task for anyone. There are more pictures of the event on our photo page
Just before Christmas in 2007 we ran a Christmas Labyrinth for the church and the community. We called it "The X Factor - Putting Christ back into Xmas" and invited the local schools to come round as well and explore the true meaning of Christmas.
We had around 300 children and also a large number of visitors from the community who journeyed through maze we had created. Below are some photos from the event along with an explanation of what we did. If you have any questions about the event or would like to talk to someone about hosting a similar event head over to our contacts and get in touch.
People would arrive at the front of the church where they would be greated with a warm welcome and an unusal sight as these photographs show. There was a guide book and activity book for the children and people were then encouraged to embark on a journey through five different areas, each one exploring another part of the Christmas story...

As people explored each area there was something for them to do and something for them to take away to remind them of the story.
Have I Got News for You
The world today seems always to be so full of bad news. Do you think we need some good news today?
The Christmas story is the beginning of the Gospel, which means "Good News"! And this story began hundreds of years earlier with an announcement through a prophet called Isaiah, whose headline was...
"A New Day Dawning!"
Have you heard the Good News?

One of the most important elements of the Christmas sotry is the way that human beings respond to God. This remains one of the most important parts of life...
"You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Sond of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever; his kingdom will never end."
Luke 1.31-33
That must have been hard for Mary to reply to, but this is what she said:
"I am the Lord's servant...may it be to me as you have said."
Luke 1.38
When Jesus grew older people asked him how to pray; how to talk to God. One of his answers was:
"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you."
Matthew 7.7
Why don't you respond to God now...?
It's a Boy!
This was a stable scene set up behind a night sky with a scene from the film "The Nativity" looping around.
At the beginning of John's version of the story of Jesus he wrote the words,
...the Word became flesh and blood,
and moved into the
neighborhood
John 1 (the Message)
The Christmas story is amazing not because a baby was born in an odd way in a manger; although all the stuff about angels, wise men and shepherds is quite something...
What is amazing about the Christmas story is who the baby is...
God...
The Presence/Presents of God
Presents are always one of the highligts of Christmas Day...but what about the presents Jesus got...
Gold - because Jesus was a King and gold was a present fit for a king.
Frankincense - because Jesus was also a priest who would reconnect us to God
Myrrh - because myrrh is about Sacrifice and Jesus was a sacrifice for you and me.
What do you want to be when you grow up?
Jesus didnt stay a baby. He grew up into someone, someone who would change the world. Christmas is not just about the birth of Jesus its about who he became - the son of God who put us right with God again, and showed us how to live in his kingdom that will never end.
